Challenge
A test solution was required for testing a PCB used in equipment for the consumer market.
The DUT (Device Under Test) contains two buttons, an LED and a sensor that must be able to detect magnetic fields in three directions. The challenge was to develop an automated test solution that could:
- Reliably operate the buttons without human interaction.
- Accurately measure the light intensity and colour of the LED.
- Generate a magnetic field in three different directions for sensor validation.
solution
To meet these requirements, a customised PM-3 test fixture was developed. This test setup offers an integrated approach for the automated validation of the DUT:
- Automatic button operation: Solenoids are used to achieve consistent and repeatable operation of the buttons.
- LED measurements: A light sensor within the test fixture measures the intensity and colour of the LED, allowing its functionality to be validated.
- Magnetic field generation: Copper wire is placed around each axis of the sensor within the test fixture. These wires are connected via test pins to the underside of the tester, allowing the tester to generate an electrical current. This creates a controlled magnetic field in three different directions, with which the sensor can be tested.
Result
Efficient and repeatable tests: The test fixture eliminates human variables and ensures reliable results.
Full validation of the DUT: The mechanical, optical and magnetic properties of the DUT are all accurately tested.
With the implementation of the PM-3 test fixture, an innovative and efficient test solution was realised, guaranteeing the quality and reliability of the wearables.
